Namibia

Namibia, a fascinating country with only highlights. If you go south from Windhoek you pass the quiver tree forest, which is very nice. More south you can stay near one of the biggest canyons in the world, the Fish River Canyon. It is more than 150 kilometers long, up to 27 kilometers wide and at some places 500 meters deep. Near the coast you can visit the deserted ghost town Kolmanskop.

One of my favorite parts of Namibia is Deadvlei. Located inside Namib Naukluft Park, a white clay pan surrounded by dunes of reaching over 300 meters. The view is surreal, grey clay on the ground, orange dunes, black dead trees and a blue sky. You can climb the dunes to see the sunrise which change colour during the day. North of the sand dunes in the rocky Namib desert you can see ancient rock engravings in Twyfelfontein or enjoy the beautiful granite peaks of Spitzkoppe.

In Etosha national park, you can stay in campsites in the park and make safaris. Near the campsites are waterpools where animals get water. It looks like a theatreshow, the animals arrive by natural order: antelopes, giraffes, rhinos, lions, oryx and the master of all the elephants. If they appear all the other animals move aside.

Most of the tourists visit the Himbas in one of the villages around Opuwo, but don’t forget to go to Epupa falls. These waterfalls are part of the Kunene river which is the border between Namibia and Angola. Palmtrees, baboons, himbas, desert and waterfalls, Epupa looks like paradise.
